UNSEEN POETRY WORKSHOPS
The Unseen Poetry workshop aims to provide students with the confidence to ace their Literature exam.
In this workshop, students will get to study 1 poem each day. They will practise annotation and analysis.
They will also acquire knowledge of poetic devices, learn to identify them and to explain them.
Most importantly, they will take the first steps towards mastering literary response.

Unseen Poetry
Suitable for Sec 1 & Sec 2

High-Ability Express students
A standard Literature exam presents 2 poems which the students have not studied, and requires the students to respond to one of these poems. Students often find this component of the Literature paper most challenging. The Unseen Poetry workshop aims to provide students with the confidence to ace their Literature exam.
In this workshop, students will get to study 1 poem each day. They will practise annotation and analysis. They will also acquire knowledge of poetic devices, learn to identify them and to explain them. Most importantly, they will take the first steps towards mastering literary response.

GENERAL PAPER
(JC 1 & JC 2)

Students are guided in conducting research and preparing essays according to themes, focusing on both local concerns and global issues. They develop critical thinking, learn to evaluate and construct robust arguments. These ensure that they ace their essay in Paper 1 and the Application Question of Paper 2. Students also learn to identify the types of comprehension questions in Paper 2. They are taught the strategies for answering each type of question, including Summary. Secure your grade for GP.
HCI LITERATURE
(JC 1)
Sun | 8.30 - 10.30pm
To ensure understanding, students are guided line-by-line through most of their school-prescribed texts. They then learn to discuss the texts in relation to literary themes. They will also acquire techniques for analysing literary devices and writer's craft. For Paper 1, students will learn to write both PBQ and essay to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Arthur Miller's Playing for Time. For Paper 3, students will learn to compare J.M. Coetzee's Age of Iron and Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Students will also learn to respond to William Shakespeare's Hamlet via the lens of mind and self. Throughout, we will practise unseen poetry, and comparison between various unseen literary genres i.e. poetry, prose, drama.
O - LEVEL ENGLISH
SEC 3 & SEC 4
Fri | 4.30 - 6.30pm
Small-group class focused on preparing students for the GCE O-Level English Examination. Students will learn to respond to the different types of continuous and situational writing, conquer all comprehension modes (visual, narrative, expository), and master summary. Last but not least, students will be taught how to ace oral.
IP ENGLISH
(UPP SEC)

Depending on what your school curriculum requires, we will cover various types of writing e.g. argumentative essay, expository essay, discursive essay, reflective essay, etc. We will also practise IP-standard comprehension and summary, as well as application question. Ultimately, we focus on getting you ready for JC GP.

Small-group class focusing on the RGS Literature syllabus. Students are closely guided in writing their Singapore short story, and studying their assigned novel. They will also be introduced to critical theory, and learn how to use them to analyse literary texts.
RGS ENGLISH & LITERATURE
(SEC 3)
Small-group class focusing on the Raffles English & Literature Programme. For English, students are closely guided for their AAs such as advocacy speech, etc. To prepare them for their PPAs and EYA, they are given practice papers specially crafted to meet the requirements of the Raffles Programme. For Literature, students are guided in their study of Adichie's Purple Hibiscus. They are also given regular practice at analysing unseen poetry, so that they are well-prepared for their EYA.

Small-group class focusing on the NYGH LA syllabus. Students are closely guided for their English and Literature WAs, and steadily prepared for all papers in their EOYs. Master Paper 1 Expository Essay, excel at Paper 2 Comprehension & Summary, and conquer Paper 3 Literary Analysis.

Small-group class focusing on the NYGH LA syllabus. Students are closely guided for their WAs (e.g. letter to the press, poem) and steadily prepared for all papers in their EOYs. Master comprehension and summary. Learn to identify and explain poetic devices, analyse poetic texts, as well as compose literary response to unseen poetry.
VS ENGLISH & LITERATURE
(SEC 2)

Small-group class focusing on the VS syllabi. Students are steadily prepared for all components of their English and Literature EOYs. They will learn the requirements of various forms of continuous writing, how to answer higher-order comprehension questions and write a competent summary. They will also learn to answer PBQ and master writing literary response to Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice and seen poems from the VS Poetry Anthology.
SJI ENGLISH & LITERATURE
(SEC 2)

Small-group class focusing on the SJI syllabi. Students are steadily prepared for all components of their English and Literature EOYs. They will learn the requirements of various forms of continuous writing, and how to answer higher-order comprehension questions. They will also learn to answer PBQ and write literary essays for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Last but not least, they will learn how to read, annotate, analyse and respond to poetry.
