Students are guided in conducting research and preparing essays according to themes, focusing on both local concerns and global issues. They develop critical thinking, learn to evaluate and construct robust arguments. These ensure that they ace their essay in Paper 1 and the Application Question of Paper 2. Students also learn to identify the types of comprehension questions in Paper 2. They are taught the strategies for answering each type of question, including Summary. Secure your grade for GP.

Students are guided to consider their set texts in terms of literary devices, roles of characters, significance of relationships, periods, genres, literary themes, etc. They will learn to construct responses to PBQ, essay, and comparison requirements. Every student will focus on their school's prescribed texts. For example, RI students may work on: Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, Thomas Middleton and William Rowley's The Changeling, John Keats and Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poetry, William Shakespeare's King Lear. HCI (Mainstream / Humanities Programme) students may work on: Charles Dickens' Hard Times, William Shakespeare's The Winter Tales, David Malouf's Remembering Babylon, Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's A Grain of Wheat, Arthur Miller's Enemy of the People, Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Regardless of which school you're from, you'll be closely guided in understanding and analysing your school-prescribed texts. Throughout, we will practise comparison between unseen poetry, and unseen literary genres such as prose and drama. Prepare for your A-Level Lit exam with a Lit Professor.

All IB students will be guided in preparing for their IO. FoLanguage and Literature students will be taught how to analyse various non-literary texts for Paper 1 e.g. print advertisements, infographic, blog, article, web page, editorial, speech, interview transcript, radio transcript, comic strip, political cartoon, etc. Literature students will learn how to analyse literary texts for Paper 1 e.g. fictional prose, non-fiction prose, dramatic plays, poems. For Paper 2, all students will receive help in narrowing down their selection of set texts for comparison. They be also closely guided in understanding and analysing their chosen texts. Most importantly, they will learn how to write comparative essays. Students who have chosen to write an EE in the disciplines of either Language and Literature, or Literature, will receive close supervision in the formulation, construction and writing of their research essay. Practice makes perfect but IP / IB school students bemoan the fact that they don't get enough practice before they are tested. As my student, you will have access to regular practice papers and mock exam papers specially designed by me to meet your IP / IB school curriculum. They will be closely modelled after your school's past year papers to give you ample practice before your tests and exams.
Close Guidance for Weighted Assignments
Every mark counts. All students have the option of focusing on their Weighted Assignments during class, and/or scheduling private consultation for extra guidance on top of regular class.

Stability
You're in it for the long haul. And so am I. It will take years to get ready for the International Baccalaureate and GCE A-Levels, and I'll be with you every step of the way. Classes will not halt because I'm entering university, having university exams or starting my career. I'm neither a JC/uni student nor school teacher teaching tuition part-time. ALL CLASSES
ENGLISH
English classes begin at Secondary 1. I have a track record of helping students transit smoothly from PSLE English to higher level demands. Whether you are in the express stream sitting for your 'O' Level or in the IP/IB programme, I will make sure that you continue to excel.
LITERATURE
Of all subjects, Literature seems the most elusive. But believe it or not, there are very specific skills of reasoning and argument that may be acquired. Learn to write literary responses that will gain you the maximum number of marks. It is possible to score an A for Lit.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Nobody can be absolutely sure what an IP school's LA syllabus will be like. Every school has its own programme and it is likely to be updated every couple of years. Under my tutelage, you will be well prepared to meet any task and to score an A for it.
COMPREHENSION & SUMMARY
Comprehension at secondary school and JC require higher order thinking skills. Learn to recognise imagery, metaphors, similes and analogies. Develop your abilities to connect concepts and paraphrase. Most importantly, master inferential skills and acquire the habit of critical thinking. Score full marks for this paper.

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
Learn to write the ever-challenging argumentative essay. You will acquire research skills and emerge with an essay or two that will withstand the harshest scrutiny. Learn from someone who teaches at the university, and who writes academically on a regular basis.
GENERAL PAPER
General Paper is a compulsory H1 subject in Junior College. Waste no time in getting ready for it. Familiarise yourself with ideas across all disciplines, as well as issues of both local interest and global concern. Learn to research, evaluate arguments and write clearly.
LANGUAGE & LITERATURE
Posters, advertisements, comics, infographics, speeches, blogs, transcripts, etc. On top of literary analysis and comparative essay writing. Become familiar with both visual and textual elements. Learn it all in this class and score the coveted 7 for your IB Lang Lit.
PORTFOLIO PREPARATION
If you are hoping to be admitted to the most prestigious literary programmes in Singapore, this is the perfect class for you. Put together a creative writing portfolio under my guidance and submit it to the Creative Writing Programme and Creative Arts Programme held by the Gifted Education Branch of MOE. Or apply for an international Fine Arts programme. Dream big, the sky's the limit.
